Nottingham Forest fourth & Leeds United, West Brom all but promoted - how Championship should look

Coronavirus has put the breaks on Nottingham Forest's promotion charge.

Sabri Lamouchi 's side are in fifth place, five points clear of Bristol City in seventh place and 10 adrift of West Bromwich Albion in second.

The Reds looked a safe bet for a top-six place before Covid-19 put the breaks on the campaign, with the English Football League (EFL) suspending the season until it is safe to resume so.

With nine games left of the season, Leeds United and West Brom are in the automatic promotion places with Fulham, Brentford and Preston North End in the play-off places.

There has been talk of the season being cancelled if it cannot restart soon, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson implementing lockdown measures on the general public forbidding people from leaving their houses unless it is essential.

EFL chairman Rick Parry sent a letter to clubs, though, stating his intention to resume the season.

Forest's campaign was brought to a halt a day before they were due to play Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough last month.

The Reds were supposed to welcome Huddersfield Town (March 18) and Bristol City (March 23) before heading to Derby County (April 4).

How would those games have gone and how would the League table look of they had gone ahead?

The Stoke Sentinel have mapped out how the League should look, with Albion and Leeds still in the top two with a massive ten point buffer to third with only 15 points to play for.

With five games to go, Forest would have picked up a further eight points with a four-point gap to Preston in seventh.

Thirteen points would separate Forest from second, though, so automatic promotion would be all-but denied.
