Nottingham Forest forward recalled from loan spell with League Two strugglers

Nottingham Forest striker Virgil Gomis has returned to the club after a loan spell with Macclesfield Town.

Gomis joined the League Two club on a season-long loan in the summer, but the deal has now been cut short.

Forest are short of strikers with the expected departure of Rafa Mir, who is likely to be recalled from his loan by Wolves.

Lewis Grabban is the only real option up top, though whether Sabri Lamouchi has first-team plans for Gomis remains to be seen.

The 20-year-old is yet to make a senior appearance for the Reds, arriving as a youngster from Mantois in 2015.

He has, however, gained valuable experience in League Two with a Macclesfield side hoping to beat the drop.

Gomis has made 11 league appearances for the Silkmen this season, though his only senior goal to date remains his strike for Baintree Town in 2018.

The young striker failed to net in 10 appearances during a loan spell at Notts County last season, and he hasn't found the net this term.

He now returns to Forest ahead of Sunday's FA Cup clash with Chelsea.
