Nottingham Forest flop Gil Dias scored one of the best Europa League goals this season

Gil Dias might have been something of a flop for Nottingham Forest, but he has seemingly made a lasting impression at Olympiacos.

For many Reds fans, their abiding memory of the Portuguese youngster will be his disastrous cameo at Norwich City on Boxing Day.

For the Greek club however, Dias may well be best remembered for a very different reason.

The winger has been singled out as scoring one of the best goals in this season’s UEFA Europa League.

Dias found the back of the net with an absolute screamer of a shot for Olympiacos in their 2-2 draw at home to Dynamo Kiev in the competition, back in February.

The visitors struggled to clear a free-kick and the 22-year-old chested the ball down before lashing in a stunning strike from about 30 yards out.

It was included in a round-up of the pick of the Europa League goals so far this term, ahead of the final between Arsenal and Chelsea.

The official UEFA Europa League Twitter account posted a clip of some of the best efforts with the caption “Great #UEL goals 2018/19” – and Dias’ shot made the cut.

The Portugal Under-21 international spent the first half of the season on loan at the City Ground from Monaco.

However, the deal was terminated in January and he headed to Olympiacos, who, like the Reds, are owned by Evangelos Marinakis.
