Nottingham Forest favourite linked with return to English football after Turkish spell

Former Nottingham Forest defender Eric Lichaj could be set for a return to English football this summer.

The 32-year-old was something of a fans’ favourite during his time at the City Ground, making more than 170 league appearances during a five-year spell - and, most memorably, scoring a brace against Arsenal in a 4-2 FA Cup victory in 2018

He left the Reds to join Hull City in 2018, then moved on to Super Lig outfit Fatih Karagumruk last September.

Lichaj penned a two-year deal with the Turkish side at the time, but finds himself a free agent after agreeing to be released from his contract following a hip injury.

According to The Sun, he has now caught the eye of teams in League One and League Two as he looks to secure his next move.

The full-back returned to these shores after his stint in Turkey, and has said he would be open to offers at home and abroad.

“I did some rehab here (in Turkey) and now I’m ready for the next season wherever that may take me,” he told HullLive in April.

“I don’t really mind, I think it’s a little early for offers with teams still involved in their seasons right now, so I’ve got to keep myself fit and see where the next place takes me and the next adventure is.

“I don’t know if that will be in England or in another country, we’ll have to wait and see.”
