Nottingham Forest favourite declares Derby County wish amid relegation battle

Relegation-threatened Derby County have received unlikely support in their battle to beat the drop from Nottingham Forest favourite Andy Reid.

The chances of the Rams playing League One football increased on Tuesday when they were beaten 3-0 at Preston North End.

Wayne Rooney’s side are fourth-bottom of the Championship table with just three games left, against Birmingham City, Swansea City and Sheffield Wednesday.

Derby are four points clear of Rotherham United but, crucially, the Millers have three games in hand, meaning the Rams’ destiny is out of their hands.

Many Forest fans are revelling in the struggles of their arch-rivals and would take great delight in seeing them drop into the third tier.

It would of course mean no East Midlands derbies in the league for one season at least, something Reds under-23 coach Reid would miss.

The former winger tweeted: “Derby in big trouble, really hope they don’t get relegated.”

The tweet was met with surprise and disagreement from the majority of Forest fans who replied.

Reid added: “General consensus from the Reds is pretty clear.”

He then jokingly added: “Must admit, not sure I like the amount of Derby fans liking this tweet.

“It’s definitely not because I feel sorry for Derby, just loved playing in the games and would rather they still be played.”
