Nottingham Forest fans will love what Liverpool legend has said about them

Jamie Carragher believes the Premier League would be a better place, if Nottingham Forest were to end their 20-year exile this summer.

The Reds are fifth in the Championship with just nine games remaining, and once the season gets going again, they’ll be hoping to continue their promotion push which took a blow at home to Millwall in their last outing at the City Ground in late March.

“They’re a team that are there or thereabouts,” he said of Sabri Lamouchi’s promotion hopefuls.

“A lot of the time we speak about Leeds for some reason, that we’re all desperate for different reasons to get a huge club back.

“When you actually think of what Forest have actually achieved in the past and the accolades, (they're) another great club that you’d love to see back.”

Carragher was speaking on Thursday’s Sky Sports Football Show and the former defender revealed how he visited the City Ground during his youth supporting his boyhood club Everton and always thought of the Reds as being a huge club, similar to their next opponents Sheffield Wednesday.

“That was something I grew up with as a kid, I remember those teams that were in the First Division, I always think of Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest’s grounds that I went to as a kid as huge presences as football clubs," said Carragher.

“Unfortunately, over the last ten to 15 years, they’ve been lost to the Premier League.

"It’s been great getting new teams in, but it’s always nice to get teams back that you can reminisce about, look back at what they achieved and realise those special times that they had in the top league.

“I think we’d all agree we’d love to see them back in the Premier League,” he added.
