Nottingham Forest fans wade in after 'hugely frustrating' City Ground stalemate

Nottingham Forest fans took to social media to have their say as the Reds were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Barnsley.

After back-to-back defeats in the league and FA Cup, Chris Hughton’s side picked up a point against the Tykes.

But they were left to rue some good chances, with Lewis Grabban, Sammy Ameobi and Anthony Knockaert all going close.

If Glenn Murray scores the goals to keep Nottingham Forest comfortably in the Championship, then it'd be good business

The result made it three games without a win for Forest and means they sit just one place above the Championship relegation zone.

Hughton gave a debut to new signing Filip Krovinovic, who joined on loan from Benfica last week, in a bid to add to his team’s creativity.

Their problems in front of goal continued, however, with the game a tough watch at times.

Here’s what Reds supporters have been saying on Twitter about this afternoon’s stalemate.

Grabban spurned the best chance of the first half when he raced clean through but the forward skewed his shot wide when he should have at least hit the target.

The Reds then wasted another opportunity afterwards when Knockaert raced clear, but instead of having a strike at goal he passed to Grabban, who was standing in an offside position.

Barnsley, who felt they should have had a penalty in the first half when Michael Helik was pulled down, were much more threatening after the break.

It took a wonderful save from Brice Samba to keep them on level terms when he dived full stretch to deny Herbie Kane’s 25-yard drive.

The goalkeeper was then forced into another stop moments later when he denied Cauley Woodrow’s header from close range.

Forest had offered very little threat up front, but they wasted another chance when Knockaert met a fine cross from Cyrus Christie.

The on-loan Fulham winger prodded it towards goal, but with nobody rushing in at the back post, the ball rolled inches wide in what was a golden opportunity.

It was an afternoon which saw Hughton also potentially dealt a fresh injury blow.

Midfielder Samba Sow was forced off before the hour mark with what looked to be an ankle problem, being replaced by Fouad Bachirou.

The hosts were already without Scott McKenna, who was understood to have been left out of the squad with a slight injury.
