Nottingham Forest fans pile in as Steve Cooper update emerges

Nottingham Forest fans have been reacting to claims that Steve Cooper is of interest to their club.

Forest are looking to replace Chris Hughton, who was sacked on Thursday morning after a 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough in the Championship.

Hughton's position looked to be untenable after Sunday's 2-1 reverse at home to Cardiff City, but he was in the City Ground dugout for the game against Boro.

The Reds went behind to a fine goal from Andraz Sporar and Boro sealed the points when Onel Hernandez jumped on a poor touch from goalkeeper Ethan Horvath and put the ball into an empty net.

Forest need some inspiration to raise them from the bottom of the Championship with only one point from a possible 21 on offer this season.

The Athletic are reporting that one of the favourites with bookmakers, Cooper, is on the 'radar' of the Reds.

Cooper is out of work having left Swansea City in the summer after leading the Welsh side to the Championship play-off final, where they were beaten by Brentford.

It was the former England youth coach's first job as a manager in senior football, and he took Swansea to the play-offs in both of his campaigns in South Wales.

He is also an Under-17 World Cup winner with England's youngsters, leading a star-studded team including Phil Foden and Callum Hudson-Odoi to glory in India in 2017.

And Reds fans have responded to reports of their club's interest in the 41-year-old.

"I now really hope it is Cooper," one supporter said on social media.

"Remember Forest being beaten 5-1 by Swansea last year in the cup under Cooper," another added. "They were anything but unimaginative or boring. We, unfortunately, were."

A third fan said: "Cooper please," while another added: "Not my first choice, but I would welcome Cooper."

"If you don't want Cooper, why not?" a fifth fan asked.

Would you welcome Cooper as Forest's new boss? Have your say in the comments section...
