Nottingham Forest fans have paid tribute to long-serving steward Brian Brindley after the club announced his death on Monday.

Brindley gave more than 50 years' service to the Reds and had recently worked on the turnstiles at the City Ground in the Trent End.

"We are saddened to learn of the passing of one of the club's longest-serving stewards, Brian Brindley," said the club via its Twitter account.

"Brian gave over 50 years of service to the club, starting in the early 1960s, and he most recently worked as a turnstile steward in the Trent End.

"Brian passed away just a few months after his brother Graham, who was also a long-serving member of the matchday staff at The City Ground, and they will be missed by all at NFFC. Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this sad time."

The announcement of Brindley's death prompted numerous tributes on Twitter which underlined how much he was loved.

Grant Brindley posted on Twitter: "So sad. Sleep tight Uncle Brian. Matchdays will never be the same again."

Kevin Poxon said: "RIP Brian, another who always took the time to converse with my children when we attend matches."

George NFFC added: "RIP Brian what a legend for being a steward for that long at our amazing club, you’ll never be forgotten."

Daniel McDonald said: "My thoughts are with his family."

Malcolm Owen added: "RIP Brian. Always made sure I went through his turnstile in TE every home game. Part of the pre-match ritual. Always had time to say hello."

And Steve Sheppard said: "Rest in peace Brian, lovely chap sadly missed."
