Nottingham Forest fans outline Michael Dawson 'hope' as retained list is announced

Nottingham Forest have announced their retained list as Chris Hughton begins overhauling the Reds squad ahead of next season.

Michael Dawson, Sammy Ameobi, Yuri Riberio, Samba Sow have left the club upon the expiry of their contracts.

Abdoulaye Diallo and Michael Hefele have also departed, while striker Glenn Murray had already announced his retirement from playing.

Loanees Cyrus Christie, Luke Freeman, James Garner, Anthony Knockaert and Filip Krovinovic have returned to their parent clubs.

“We thank every player who has represented the club and wish them all well with their future careers,” said Hughton.

“I have been very pleased with the levels of commitment shown by the players during my time here. We now move on to a new phase and start planning for what will be a hugely important season for us.”

City Ground favourite Dawson bids an emotional farewell after two spells with the club which launched his career.

“He has enjoyed a fantastic career and we hope to still see him at the City Ground as he moves onto the next phase of his career,” said chairman Nicholas Randall QC.

Forest fans have taken to social media to pay tribute to Dawson and have their say on the retained list in general. Here is what they have been saying...

Stuart Rowe: Fabulous professional and all round decent bloke. Hope to see him back at the City Ground in a coaching capacity. Thanks for the memories, Daws, and good luck with whatever is coming up in your future

Carol Driscoll: Absolutely gutted about this - surely there is a job Michael could do at Forest? He is my favourite footballer. He has been such an inspiration, and is a true gentleman. I will miss him so much.

John Bilcliff: Remember him coming on during a freezing 1-0 win at MK Dons - immediately he starts organising the defence and they never looked like conceding after that. He was about 19 at the time.

Marc Davo: Remember his debut against Walsall and my Dad turning to me to say he is going to be some player. He wasn't wrong!

What do you think about the retained list? Have your say in the comments section below

Marc Davo: Gutted to see Samba Sow go. He had a horrible time with injuries but he was brilliant for us when he played.

John Price: Both Ameobi and Ribeiro haven't really held down the position as their own and, sentiments aside, we have not made promotion so we need to be looking at better.

Finn Peto: Gutted about Yuri [Riberio]. Thought he was our best left-back and you could tell he tried. Glad to see some deadwood released though. Hopefully frees up wages for some good signings.
