Nottingham Forest fans open old wounds for Notts County after Wes Morgan tribute

Nottingham Forest fans have reopened some old wounds for Notts County after tributes were paid to their former defender and Leicester City captain Wes Morgan.

The Foxes announced the centre-back will retire at the end of the season, which led to a fine tribute from boss Brendan Rodgers and his team-mates.

And Forest were also quick to share the love of Morgan, with the ex-Reds defender having played more than 400 league and cup games for the club before he left to join Leicester in 2012.

And Forest predictably posted one of the finest goals Morgan scored at the City Ground, which came against Magpies in an enthralling 3-3 draw in the League Cup 10 years ago.

Trailing 3-2 and in the dying stages of extra time, Championship side Forest faced the prospect of being knocked out by Notts, who were in League One at the time.

But Morgan hit a stunning strike from the edge of the box to send the game to penalties, which Forest won 4-3 to secure their passage to the second round of the competition.

Forest Tweeted a video of Morgan's goal with the words 'iconic strike', and Forest fans who were there that night shared their memories of a brilliant game between the clubs.

Hilly: "How is this 10 Years ago? Doesn't feel that long ago sitting in the ground, watching this beauty fly in and then win on penalties."

Newthorpe Walker: "What a game that was."

Shacks: "Great finish from Wes. We were the better side on the night. All downhill since."

Warren Allsworth: "The best moment of Wes’ career!"

AJ: "One of the best "I was there" goals I've ever seen. I still remember the look on my mate's face when it went in. "You'll never beat Wes Morgan!" You won't stop him either."

Adam Gray: "Forget winning the FA Cup, and playing every minute of a Premier League winning season; THIS was the greatest moment of Wes Morgan's career."

The Famous Club: "How can you not love this?"
