Nottingham Forest fans make the same point as Andy Carroll joins Reading

Nottingham Forest’s next opponents, Reading, have made a shock signing ahead of the resumption of Championship action this weekend.

The Royals have snapped up former England, Liverpool and Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll, who was a free agent.

Carroll has joined Reading on a short-term deal until January and could face the Reds this weekend after completing his medical.

The 32-year-old, whose career has been marred by a succession of injuries, left Newcastle in the summer and had been on the lookout for a new club.

Reading boss Veljko Paunovic said: "Andy is looking for a new challenge in his career and we need a player with his quality and vast experience. So this is a great match and I’m really looking forward to working with Andy over the next couple of months."

But Reds fans aren't convinced by Carroll. Here's a taste of what they've been saying on social media...

Matt Curson: He’ll be injured by then.

George Barke: He’s past it Wozza and McKenna will flatten him.

Rob Asher: He's past it not all that nowadays.

Stuart Clarkson: Is it huge because of his wages or his height? He’s unlikely to be match fit.

Stuart Harris: Just good in the air... one of our weaknesses.

Richie Berryman: 100% won't be playing on Saturday plus with Christmas around the corner I doubt that he'll be playing anytime before February.
