Nottingham Forest fans highlight 'the problem' after club post £32m operating losses

Nottingham Forest fans have been reacting after the club posted operating losses of almost £32million in their latest set of accounts.

The figures for the period from April 2019 to May 2020 show the club’s operating loss for the year was £31.9m - down from £34.4m the previous year.

The latest set of accounts only cover the back end of last season, which was halted in March by the pandemic.

It is anticipated that next year’s will really show the impact of Covid-19 and the subsequent lockdowns, with Forest set to go a full season without having fans at the City Ground.

Here’s a taste of what Reds supporters have been saying on or Nottingham Forest News Facebook page and this website.

Gary P Nffc: It's a nightmare outside the prem, you cannot make money or even tread water, financial black hole

Dave Wrench: Johnson or Worrall, or both, to balance the books

Andrew Matthewman: Investment in the squad has been awful, they need to invest in younger players not keep bringing in journeymen pros.

Fulwoodred: Enjoy Worrall while you can. He will be gone in the Summer, a sale that might have been avoidable but for our reckless recruitment last Summer. Unfortunately Arter, Colback, Blackett, Bachirou and Taylor will be more difficult to show the door to. All apart from Bachirou will be on wages far in excess of what any other club is likely to pay them. Hopefully we won't blow the Worrall money on acquiring Knockaert or succumb to the offers that will probably come in for Johnson.

Sarah Clapson and Leigh Curtis reflect on defeat for Nottingham Forest against Watford

Forestforever: The problem the reds have far too many journeymen on big wages doing nothing. We need a massive clear out of these players. But the problem is (Clough a perfect example) they have contracts that they know they won’t get anywhere else. So they won’t go until there contracts are nearly up.

Downtoearth: Too many players on too higher wages. Why teams need a squad of 40+ players these days is beyond me. Football seems to be the only business that despite no fans and much less income, the players have only had a small drop in wages. The problem is mainly caused by the Premier League. To get promoted you have to compete with teams relegated from the Premier League who get a £50m+ payment. Its become a joke.
