Nottingham Forest fans have brilliant idea after club make sponsor decision

Nottingham Forest fans have suggested replacing the Football Index logo with that of a local charity on the Reds’ shirts.

Forest will remove the online betting company’s branding from all of their shirts, starting with tomorrow’s clash at home to Reading.

Football Index, which is described as “the world’s first football stock market”, posted a statement on their website on Thursday night saying they had gone into administration.

They have been the Reds’ principal shirt sponsor since 2019, in what was unveiled as “the biggest shirt sponsorship deal in the club’s history”.

But that logo will now be removed from Forest’s home and away shirts, meaning the team will be without a front of shirt sponsor ahead of the deal with Football Index expiring in the summer.

Supporters have taken to social media to offer a suggestion of how to fill the space.

@arsherali: I’d like to see @Framework_HA on the #NFFC shirt for the rest of the season. Come on @NFFC

@zakfretwell95: Stick a charitable cause on it instead of leaving it blank?

@NickBriggsNFFC: So do we wear plain shirts for the rest of this season then ?

Rick Hall: I'm not one for chad gestures, but if there's not going to be a new sponsor I think sticking the NHS logo on as a bit of gratitude for their hard work would be nice. Gives the club some positive press too.

Danny Kirkman: Or advertise a charity free for the rest of the season

@NFFC_UBPodcast: Why don't @NFFC get a charity put on the front for the next game? Or alternatively just put the number of days since Derby last beat #NFFC? Either of these are better than nothing!

Last Saturday, Football Index’s market collapsed following an announcement on Friday evening saying dividends were being reduced by about 80 percent within 30 days.

The change to the terms and conditions meant traders went from being able to win a maximum dividend of 33p on a single day, to just 6p under the revised structure.

That led to share prices for many players plummeting, with some suddenly going from being worth pounds to just pennies.

Traders began to post stories online detailing their losses, with some claiming huge sums - some upwards of five-figures - were wiped out virtually overnight as the share prices collapsed.

Fellow Championship side QPR also carried the Football Index logo and said in a statement: “Queens Park Rangers Football Club can confirm they will no longer be carrying the Football Index logo on the front of their shirts, effective immediately.

“The Football Index platform was suspended on Thursday and the company subsequently announced they would be entering administration.

“QPR CEO Lee Hoos said: ‘As a football club we entered into a one-year agreement with Football Index in good faith.

“In light of recent events, the front property of QPR’s home and away strips will no longer sport the Football Index logo.’”
