Nottingham Forest fans go nuts as 'very good' transfer link emerges

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Blackpool striker Jerry Yates.

According to The Sun, Chris Hughton's side are interested in signing Yates this summer with the forward also said to be impressing Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City.

Yates has netted 16 times for Blackpool this season as they look to achieve promotion into the Championship under Neil Critchley, formerly Liverpool's Under-23s boss.

Yates, who scored 14 goals in League Two for Swindon Town last season, is being valued at around £2 million in reports.

The striker left Championship side Rotherham United in the summer after coming through the ranks at the New York Stadium.

However, he was unable to force his way into Paul Warne's side and made 52 appearances - 29 of them in the Championship - before leaving the club.

He registered 21 and 17 outings in the 2016-17 and 21017-18 seasons, in the Championship and League One, respectively.

Forest currently have Lyle Taylor, Lewis Grabban and Glenn Murray as Hughton's options up front.

Hughton could look lower down the Leagues this season to find value and talent to develop and potentially sell on if Forest are not promoted in 2021-22.

Brentford are the model that clubs could look to follow having had success with Ollie Watkins and now Ivan Toney picked up for relatively low fees and developed into Championship goal-machines.

"Finally a young striker," one Forest fan said.

Another added: "Look at what Brentford have found in the likes of Watkins and Toney, I’m very happy to be linked with an English League striker for once! We need someone committed and with hunger!"

"I live in the Blackpool area and a lot of their fans tell me he’s a very good player," a third fan said.

Another added: "This is the sort of player we should be going for," while a fifth fan said: "Hope this isn't just interest, let's get more young talent to the club."

"Yes get him," says another Forest supporter.
