The Reds have reportedly been by the Magpies for the second half of the season.
West Bromwich Albion have been reportedly interested in the signing of Atsu on loan, with the Baggies also credited with an interest in Hull winger Kamil Grosicki – a player also linked with Forest.
Atsu has made 18 appearances in the Premier League for Newcastle this season, but is yet to find the back of the net.
