Nottingham Forest fans enjoy Derby County chaos after shock Wayne Rooney announcement

Nottingham Forest fans have been enjoying the sight of further issues at Pride Park, following a shock announcement from Derby County manager Wayne Rooney.

The Rams have been suffering financially having been placed in administration in September 2021, although they have overcome a huge hurdle after local businessman David Clowes acquired Pride Park from former chairman Mel Morris as part of a takeover bid.

Now, however, they must begin searching for a new manager after Rooney informed the administrators of his intention to leave Pride Park immediately.

Rooney said he has experienced "a rollercoaster of emotions, both highs and lows," since taking over the reins at Pride Park but reiterated that he has "enjoyed the challenge."

In a statement, Rooney said: "Personally, I feel the club now needs to be led by someone with fresh energy and not affected by the events that have happened over the last eighteen months. I will remember my time at Derby with great pride and affection and would like to thank all my staff, players and of course the fans for their incredible support. I will never forget you and hope to see you all again in the near future and in happier times.

"Finally, I am aware that the club still have interested parties who wish to take over the running of the club. To them I say this, Derby County is a great club with a great history and great fans. I wish you all the best and much success for the future."

This is what some Forest fans have been saying...

@DuckSepOps: Maybe on sky they'll just become "The Club formally known as Wayne Rooneys Derby County"

@Caz_NFFC: Rooney will be a massive loss to Derby. As one of England's best ever players, he could have been the draw for some young and hungry upcoming players in League One. Can't see him out of work for too long

@Chrishoodforest: Get Wayne Rooney in as under 23s manager. Upgrade from derby

@charlie_nffc: Derby fans do you still think Rooney should get his statue

@RhyseHardyyy: Didn’t Derby give Rooney freedom to the city the other month?

@NeilWells82: So what happens to the statue now??

@wiggynffc: Rooney came to his senses and left, he could actually buy the club if he wanted too.

@samwalker5: He’s come in, took the freedom of Derby honour and disappeared. What a man

@HugoBrailsford: Big respect to WR for sticking it out and giving you guys somethings to feel actually pretty darn OK about last year (#nffc fan in peace)

@noseyfrigger: So Rooney leaving.... that because all is not well despite positive news today or that he was involved in previous bidder. I'm a proud forest fan but gotta feel for derby fans now
