Nottingham Forest fans do not want Tendayi Darikwa to leave as Wigan Athletic reportedly circle

Nottingham Forest defender Tendayi Darikwa has been linked with a move to join Wigan Athletic and fans are not keen on seeing him leave Trentside.

Latics boss Paul Cook is said to have identified the defender as his number on target to replace last season's loan star Reece James, according to the Sun.

But any move for the Zimbabwe international would leave the Reds limited on defensive options, with midfielder Matty Cash filling in at right-back while his teammate was away with his country in Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 27-year-old defender made 31 appearances for the Reds last season, battling for his spot on the team sheet with West Ham United loanee Sam Byram.

And with no deal seemingly in the offing for Byram to return, Forest fans have been taking to social media to call for Darikwa to stay at the City Ground.

James Tinsley: I want to keep this guy.

Joshua Kay: No way. Solid player, works his socks off every game. Keep him.

Bela Balogh: No. Keep him. Decent player and Forest lad.

Tom Martin: It would be stupid to get rid of him.

Mark Wolden: We need him, can make a few poor decisions but gives 100% and Forest team player.
