Nottingham Forest fans deliver their verdict on new 'throwback' home shirt

Nottingham Forest today revealed their new home shirt for their upcoming Championship campaign.

The smart look, complete with matt silicone crest and embossed stars, was designed and manufactured by Macron and is the first to showcase new front-of-shirt sponsor Football Index.

And the new kit, which can be pre-ordered from Monday (July 1), certainly split opinion among Reds fans when it was unveiled.

It would always be faced with the tough task of competing with this summer's 40th anniversary shirt, released to commemorate Forest's 1979 European Cup win

That two tone number, complete with the names of each of the Miracle Men, was a huge hit with supporters and was modelled by new signing Sammy Ameobi this week upon his unveiling.

This season's top, with it's white under arm panels, has had supporters casting their minds back 10 years to the Umbro jersey that saw the Reds survive an immediate return to League One with a late escape.

Under the stewardship of Billy Davies, Forest looked for a huge chunk of that season to be heading back to the third tier, but a late charge, including memorable City Ground victories against Preston, Bristol City and Southampton saw them survive.

And that kit evokes fond memories of popular heroes Robert Earnshaw and Guy Moussi.

Like any strip, its fondness among supporters will come from how the club fare in their pursuit of promotion.

But that hasn't stopped you giving us your opinions on social media...

Robin Palmer: I quite like it. The touches of white make it look better. It has a striped style pattern in the material if you zoom in. You can just about make out the shorts too. White with red strip down the sides.

Steve Hall: Even players don't seem impressed.

Allan McLean: It's all about promotion, not the shirt.

Matt Sellors: It kinda reminds me of the 2009/2010 home top.

Any Draper: How do they go from that lovely celebration shirt to that?
