Nottingham Forest fans crown Matty Cash player of the season as he joins list of legends

Matty Cash has rounded off a brilliant season at Nottingham Forest by scooping the coveted player of the season award as voted for by the fans.

The defender had a wonderful campaign on Trentside as he produced a string of majestic displays to help Forest secure a place in the top six for the majority of the season.

But the dream of playing in the Premier League faltered on the last day of the campaign as the Reds missed out on a play-off spot in heartbreaking fashion.

Cash, who has been linked with numerous Premier League clubs, has been a pivotal figure for Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi as the midfielder turned defender scored three goals and registered five assists in the campaign.

And the academy graduate joins a long list of club legends who previously won the award such as Garry Birtles, Nigel Clough, Des Walker and Stuart Pearce.

The 23-year-old takes the crown from his team-mate Joe Lolley who won it last season.

Finishing in second place with 13 per cent of the vote was Lewis Grabban who scored 20 league goals last term - the first Forest striker to achieve the feat season since 2002-03.

Goalkeeper Brice Samba claimed third place with nine per cent of the vote in his debut season.
