Nottingham Forest fans cannot wait for play-off final packed with Reds connections

Two Nottingham Forest youngsters will be hoping to do battle in the League One play-off final after Lincoln City earned the right to face Blackpool at Wembley next Sunday.

Lincoln survived a tense clash with Sunderland this afternoon as they survived a terrible first half.

The visitors did not lay a glove on the Black Cats in the first half and saw their 2-0 first-leg advantage wiped out by goals from Ross Stewart and Charlie Wyke in front of a raucous home crowd of 9,971.

However in a much-improved second-half display, striker Tom Hopper’s 56th-minute header calmed their nerves and although Lee Burge saved a Jorge Grant penalty, a 2-1 defeat at the Stadium of Light was enough to clinch a 3-2 aggregate victory and a showdown with Blackpool for a place in the Championship.

The result means Forest's highly rated youngster Brennan Johnson is off to Wembley, where he will line up against a Blackpool side which could feature Reds right-back Jordan Gabriel after the Tangerines saw off Oxford United in the other semi-final.

Beyond that pair, former Reds midfielders Grant and Liam Bridcutt will be key men for Lincoln as Grant was relieved to see his missed penalty did not cost them.

Forest fans were pleased for the pair with Bridcutt praised for his performance in midfield.

Here's a look at what fans said on Twitter after watching Lincoln's win.

Dave: Extra special congratulations to Brennan Johnson, Jorge Grant and Liam Bridcutt

Alfie Fox: Genuinely no idea why we let Bridcutt go, he’s still a top player

Jonny: Brennan looks like he can handle the pressure of a big game. Few nice touches from him

Paul: Chuffed to bits for Lincoln think the final will be well worth a watch. Selfishly, want Blackpool to come up. Be great to see Johnson with #NFFC next year and Blackpool coming up gives us a chance for a pick or two from imps.
