Nottingham Forest facing transfer battle as rivals steal march on striker

After a successful loan spell, Nottingham Forest know they face a fight to re-sign Manchester United youngster James Garner for next season.

But fellow midfielder Ryan Yates admits it would make a big difference to the squad, if they do win that race.

Garner has made a great impression since joining the Reds in January, racking up 19 appearances and scoring three goals while being almost an ever-present for boss Chris Hughton.

Transfer talk

Interest in Nottingham Forest-linked Stephen Humphrys is said to be stepping up ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Reds manager has some big decisions to make, but has said his mind is as good as made up about what will happen to those whose futures are in doubt.

We’ve taken a look at the players whose loans or contracts are coming to an end.

Rams relegated?

It’s the question on the lips of almost every Nottingham Forest fan - do they want to see bitter rivals Derby County relegated from the Championship?

While there is nothing riding on the Reds’ final day clash against Preston North End, it will be a very different story up the A52 at Pride Park, where the Rams face relegation rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

Following Rotherham United’s goalless draw against Luton Town on Tuesday, Derby’s fate is in their own hands.

A win over the Owls will keep Wayne Rooney’s side in the second tier and relegated Rotherham and Wednesday, with bottom side Wycombe Wanderers needing a mathematical miracle to stay up.
