Nottingham Forest are facing fierce competition to land free agent Alexander Djiku.

The defender is on the lookout for a new challenge after his deal with Strasbourg expired at the end of last month. Forest are amongst several clubs interested in securing his services.

Lille and Fenerbahce are also understood to be keen on the 28-year-old, while French outlet L'Equipe claims Villarreal are the latest club to show an interest.

They say the La Liga outfit are "contemplating a move" for the Ghana international but acknowledge that Fenerbahce and Forest are "leading the chase" for his signature Both Forest and the Turkish side have reportedly "put forward formal proposals" to Djiku.

L'Equipe adds that the French-born player has twice met with new Strasbourg manager Patrick Vieira. However, he is claimed to be keen on "trying his luck abroad" four years after joining Strasbourg from Caen in 2019.

Forest are yet to make any new additions to their squad this summer. Their only piece of transfer business so far has been to convert striker Chris Wood's loan from Newcastle United into a permanent deal.
