Nottingham Forest face Everton transfer battle over Serie A striker

Nottingham Forest are keen to sign Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata, according to a report.

Forest are said to be in the market for another striker this summer, and news from Italy claims that they have identified Zapata as the man they want. Emmanuel Dennis is set to move on, just five months after his arrival from Watford in the summer, so a replacement is required.

Zapata, a 31-year-old Colombian, has scored 80 goals and assisted a further 40 in 174 appearances for Atalanta, having joined from fellow Italian side Sampdoria back in 2018. His record has attracted attention from clubs across Europe, with Everton and Forest the latest to register their interest.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Forest are interested but face competition from Everton for his signature. It's said that the Reds are keen on a loan-to-buy deal, but Atalanta want to sell outright.

That could put the ball in Everton's court, but they have not sealed a deal and Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has shown he will back head coach Steve Cooper with whatever resources he needs. That commitment is showing no signs of slowing down this month.

While Zapata has an impressive goal scoring record for Atalanta, he has only scored once this season and it's reportedly that Atalanta will welcome bids of €17m. Forest have already signed one player from Atalanta this season having added Remo Freuler in the summer.
