Nottingham Forest eye double swoop for Manchester United and Tottenham starlets

With an overhaul expected at Nottingham Forest this summer, the club are set to announce Dane Murphy as CEO in the coming days.

A promotion push is very much in the thinking of those at Forest and improving their recruitment strategy will be key in any success the club have next season.

Zian Flemming is a target for manager Chris Hughton as he looks to bolster his creative options, but the Reds are also eyeing loan deals from Premier League clubs Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

United midfielder James Garner had two Championship loan spells last season as he spent the first half of the campaign with Watford before he joined up with Hughton’s side in January.

He made 21 appearances for the Hornets and he registered one assist in his four months with the London club.

His time at the City Ground was far more productive as he made 20 appearances and scored four goals.

It’s no surprise that the club are eager for the 20-year-old to return this summer, but plenty of rivals are also interested in the United' academy starlet, including top-flight outfits.

Brighton, Norwich City and Rangers are all said to be interested in landing his signature.

It appears a decision will be made on the player’s future later in pre-season after he is given the chance to push for first team football at United, and he’s highly rated by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has described him as the ‘next Michael Carrick’.

But another loan move may still be the best options for his development, and while Forest are well placed to secure his services once again, as he was a regular starter under Hughton, the deal is far from a certainty.

The club are also keen on bringing in Tottenham winger Jack Clarke, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Stoke City.

Clarke, 20, came through the academy at Leeds United and impressed under Marcelo Bielsa in the Championship at just 18 years of age.

Spurs signed him on a permanent deal reportedly worth up to £10m in 2019 before he was loaned back to Leeds for the first half of the 2019/20 campaign.

The second half of that season was spent with Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

At Stoke, Clarke made just 14 appearances and registered two assists before he sustained an ankle injury in the latter stages of last season and returned to his parent club.

Spurs have now started their pre-season training under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo and Clarke is among those that returned this week.

It’s a new era at Hotspur Way, but Forest are looking to make a move for the winger with Hughton eager to address his side’s lack of goals this transfer window.
