Nottingham Forest exploring 'cut-price' transfer for World Cup defender

Nottingham Forest are reportedly showing an interest in Iran international defender Milad Mohammadi.

The Press Association claims the Reds are keen on sealing a deal for the Gent left-back who is available for a cut-price fee with the defender's contract set to expire next summer.

Gent are prepared to accept a lower figure to stop him from leaving on a free this time next year and that has interested Forest who face competition from Ligue 1 side Brest.

AEK Athens and Ferencvaros have submitted bids of €500,000 (£428,000) and €450,000 (£385,000) respectively which were accepted only for the defender to reject both moves.

Mohammadi has won 41 caps for Iran and also figured in the 2018 World Cup as they finished third in Group B.

Forest are looking for a left-back with Gaetan Bong having been told he is free to leave the club while Nicholas Ioannou has sealed a season-long loan move to Italian side Como.

Reds boss Chris Hughton is yet to make a signing in the transfer window but has been linked with a number of players including Norwich striker Jordan Hugill and Zian Flemming of Fortuna Sittard.
