Nottingham Forest enter contract talks with key player to ward off Premier League interest - reports

Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall is reportedly in talks with the club over extending his current contract.

The Reds centre-back’s current deal is due to expire in 2022, and he has become a key player for Sabri Lamouchi’s side this season.

Worrall’s form has seen him linked with a move away from the City Ground, with with Arsenal, Newcastle United, Sheffield United, West Ham United and Norwich City all credited with an interest.

The Mirror are reporting that Forest have opened talks with Worrall over lengthening his deal at the City Ground, in order to fend off interest from other clubs.

Forest have already seen Matty Cash and Ryan Yates commit their long-term futures to the club with new deals in recent months.

Worrall admitted earlier this month that he would like to extend his deal with the Reds, but as of then he says he had not received a call from the club.

“I’m still waiting! It’s something that’s been spoken about the last couple of weeks,” said Worrall earlier this month.

“A lot of the ‘one of our own’ lads have signed new contracts, so I’m a bit miffed I’ve not been offered one yet!

“It’s just one of those things that gets spoken about - if you play 20 games in a row and perform well, then, if I was a manager or a CEO, of course you want to tie your best players down.

“It’s just something that all players will get throughout their career. It’s how you handle it, and not let it affect you.

“I just look towards the weekend and trying to win the game.”
