Nottingham Forest 'enquire' about January transfer as injury update emerges

Injury fears over Nottingham Forest midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate appear to have been eased.

The 32-year-old was stretchered off in Senegal’s opening World Cup match on Monday night, and there was concern he would miss his country’s final two group games. However, manager Aliou Cisse has provided an encouraging update.

Discussing the state of play ahead of Friday’s clash with hosts Qatar, he said in a press conference relayed by the Senegalese Football Federation’s official Twitter account: “Abdou Diallo resumed training yesterday. He feels very good. We hope that Cheikhou Kouyaté will also be ready.”

Transfer talk

Nottingham Forest are said to have enquired about promising young German defender Jamil Siebert ahead of the January transfer window.

The 20-year-old Fortuna Dusseldorf centre-back is currently on loan at Viktoria Koln. But he has reportedly been attracting interest from elsewhere, including from the Reds.

German newspaper Bild claim Forest have expressed an interest in signing Siebert in January. They would have to fight off competition from Jose Mourinho’s Roma for his signature, while it is also suggested he could stay with his loan side until the summer.

Transfermarkt relay the article from Bild, which includes quotes from the player’s agent. In a translated interview, Alexis Portselis said: "It's true that both clubs are interested in Jamil. They contacted us and enquired about the contractual situation.

Lee reflects

Jason Lee has finally had the moment he waited more than 25 years for - an apology from David Baddiel for the way he was abused on the Fantasy Football League show when he played for Nottingham Forest in the mid-90s.

Mocking players on the cult TV show was a running theme but for Lee it crossed a line with Baddiel donning Blackface and sticking a fake pineapple on his head to represent his hairstyle of the time. The apology happened a while ago, during the Women's Euros as the pair discuss their support for the game on Lee's new AbsoluteLee podcast. As Baddiel professes his advocacy for the women's game, Lee asks 'what was the last game you went to?'

Baddiel's confession he's never been to one is a relatively mild uncomfortable moment in an hour long interview which is generally raw, upfront and essential viewing for those of us who enjoyed the cult hit and have come to realise - or not - just how badly it aged and how torturous it was for Lee.

The podcast, which Baddiel appeared on as part of his documentary Jews Don't Count to discuss his own experience of discrimination, was released this week and has generated plenty of coverage in the national media, casting the spotlight on Lee in the way he has probably long wanted when he says he could take ownership of the situation.

Cash claim

Matty Cash will now be worth double the price Nottingham Forest sold him to Aston Villa for following his World Cup debut, it has been claimed.

The 25-year-old left Forest for the Premier League club for a fee of around £16 million in the summer of 2020. The full-back had come up through the youth ranks at the City Ground before making an impact in the Reds' first team.

Cash has earned praise for his performances since completing the move, and was voted Villa supporters' player of the season for 2021/22. And now he is making an impact on the global stage after making his World Cup debut for Poland against Mexico on Wednesday.

Cash is eligible for Poland through his grandfather and made his debut for the nation in November last year. He was named in the starting XI for Poland’s opening game in Qatar and played the full 90 minutes of the 0-0 draw.
