Nottingham Forest engaged in 'talks' after making transfer bid for Brazilian striker

Nottingham Forest have launched a bid to sign a Brazilian striker to add to their three-man strong contingent, which could double in size on transfer deadline day.

On Monday an offer was made to FC Cincinnati for striker Brenner, according to MLSsoccer.com. Forest offered to take the player on loan with a buyout clause that would be triggered by performance markers.

The report adds that "talks between the two clubs remain ongoing" after Cincinnati countered their offer. Brenner trained individually away from the rest of the squad while transfer talks took place.

It is also claimed that the 23-year-old "hopes to push a move through" before the January transfers window closes. The deadline is at midnight on Tuesday.

The former Brazil youth international had 24 goal involvements (18 goals, six assists) in 29 appearances in Major League Soccer in 2022. He had moved to Cincinnati from Sao Paulo for around $13 million (£10.5m), one of the biggest transfer fees ever paid by an American club.

Forest are not the only club who have held an interest in Brenner. Udinese reportedly made a bid to sign him earlier this month, while PSV Eindhoven were also interested before signing Fabio Silva on loan from Wolves.

The Reds have already signed a trio of Brazilians this season in Renan Lodi, Gustavo Scarpa and Danilo. They have also been linked with moves for Atletico Madrid defender Felipe and Santos teenager Angelo Gabriel.
