Nottingham Forest digest - Reds self-destruct at Hillsborough; Pundits lose faith in Forest

Good morning, and welcome to this today's Nottingham Forest digest!

Three second half goals blow Forest away at Hillsborough

Martin O’Neill rang the changes at Hillsborough, but the result for Forest was still the same story regardless, as they suffered yet more away day frustration against Sheffield Wednesday.

The Reds notched up a 13th away game without a win and saw their slim play-off hopes all but ended, as they found themselves on the wrong end of a painful 3-0 defeat in Yorkshire.

Here is the full match report.

'We consistently press the self-destruct button'

For the second away game on the trot, and the second successive one in south Yorkshire, Forest were beaten on the road.

If Saturday’s reverse at struggling Rotherham dealt a severe blow to any lingering play-off hopes, then this crushing will have put a final nail in the coffin.

Understandably frustrated at what they watched in Sheffield, Reds fans were quick to make their feelings known.

Here's what they had to say.

'I needed a kick up the backside' admits ex-Forest striker David McGoldrick

Ex-Reds striker David McGoldrick admits his negative reputation put potential suitors off signing him last summer, after he left Ipswich Town - and revealed how he needed a kick up the backside to ensure his career didn't peter out.

The frontman was eventually snapped up by Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder and has since enjoyed a fine season as the Blades challenge for promotion to the Premier League.

Byram 'showed his class' on a tough night

"It was like he had never been away. Looked as good on his return as he did back in August before injury stopped him in his tracks. Showed his class on a tough night. 7/10!"

Sarah Clapson ranked and rated all of Forest's stars on what was a dismal evening in Sheffield.

Here are her player ratings.

Not one pundit thinks Forest will make the play-offs

Not one Sky Sports pundit is backing Nottingham Forest to make the Championship play-offs, never mind go up.

The broadcaster sat down with their EFL experts to discuss the promotion race, with Scott Minto, former Forest midfielder David Prutton, Don Goodman, Andy Hinchcliffe and Danny Higginbottom all predicting arch-rivals Derby County will win the race for sixth.

Historian claims Forest will become Football League's oldest club if Notts County are relegated

Forest will take the title of the oldest Football League club if Notts County are relegated, according to a football historian.

It was thought Stoke City would take on the mantle, with their crest carrying a formation date of 1863, but evidence suggests they were actually formed five years later, and so are younger than Forest, who were formed in 1865.
