Nottingham Forest defender Yohan Benalouane reportedly attracting Premier League interest

Yohan Benalouane has attracted interest from the Premier League and could be on his way out of Nottingham Forest next summer, if reports are to be believed.

He only joined The Reds for an undisclosed fee in January, having become Martin O'Neill's first signing as manager.

The Guardian report that Cardiff and Leeds interested in the Tunisian defender who was part of Leicester's Premier League winning side that made it through to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Cardiff sit 18th in the top flight with the third worst defensive record in the Premier League, and are said to have made Benalouane a target more than a year before his City Ground deal ends.

However, Neil Warnock's Bluebirds are in a relegation battle and could be in the Championship next season which will likely be a factor when it comes to signing players.

Meanwhile, Leeds could be going the other way as they chase promotion.

Nottingham Forest's arch-rivals Derby County could be the next Championship club hit with EFL sanctions

The Whites sit 3rd in the Championship, one point behind Sheffield United who occupy second spot, with the paper suggesting Marcelo Bielsa is keen on Benalouane irrespective of what division they're in next season.

In his short time with Forest, the cult-figure has scored the winner against arch-rivals Derby County and helped keep three clean sheets in nine games.

However, his disciplinary record is a concern, having picked up a card in nearly half the games he’s played for the Reds.

After netting the 74th second winner against the Rams, O’Neill praised his performance and suggested the 31-year-old was continuing to improve.

“Yohan was immense. I thought he was absolutely fantastic. He was fantastic in almost everything he did," beamed O'Neill.

Nottingham Forest's summer plans are on 'eternal review' says boss

“He was just terrific. I think that was his best performance and it came in a big derby game, in front of a full house.

"Against Derby, I would not say he obeyed absolutely everything on that front, but he was so much better, in terms of thinking about things.

"He was great.”
