Nottingham Forest defender Tendayi Darikwa's message after injury blow

Injured defender Tendayi Darikwa says he is “sad” to be missing a chunk of Nottingham Forest’s Championship campaign.

The right-back has suffered a ruptured ACL which is likely to keep him out of action for at least several months.

The club are reluctant to put a precise timescale on his expected return, but there is real concern over the impact it will have on Darikwa’s season.

The 27-year-old, though, says he will still be supporting from the sidelines as Sabri Lamouchi’s men look to challenge for a place in the Premier League.

He posted a picture of himself with a pair of crutches on social media, writing: “Sad to be out of action for a while. Will be supporting the boys week in, week out. Thank you for the messages. COYR”

Darikwa is highly unlikely to play again this year, even if he is able to return for the final stages of the season.

The injury blow comes after what had been a decent 2018/19 for Darikwa, when he made 35 appearances in the Garibaldi.

He had been used sparingly in pre-season after being away with Zimbabwe in the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this summer.

But Lamouchi had previously made it clear that Darikwa would be his first-choice right-back, adding that Matty Cash could also challenge for that place.

It remains to be seen if the Reds will now look to sign another full-back before the window closes next Thursday.
