Nottingham Forest defender reveals key Steve Cooper message in QPR draw

Joe Worrall says Nottingham Forest deserved their point in the 1-1 draw against QPR at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

The visitors had two penalty appeals waved away before Jack Colback fired home an equaliser in injury time, his deflected strike sending nearly 2900 travelling fans into raptures.

"I think on the balance of things, we deserved that," Worrall told Forest club media. "We know QPR are a good side, they play expansive football, they are high scorers, but they concede goals as well.

"We felt that we were pretty harshly treated by the referee in the first half. I thought we should have had two penalties. We’ve seen them at half-time and after the game and they are stonewallers, but that’s just the way it goes sometimes.

"At the end of the day, we can’t put the blame on the referee. We’ve got to put the blame on ourselves for not creating more chances and not putting the ball in the net."

The 24-year-old centre-half said manager Steve Cooper's interval message had been key to Forest's revival after they had fallen behind to a Lyndon Dykes header in first half injury time.

"The manager didn't want our heads to drop and told us to go out there and keep playing and keep pushing," he added.

"As we proved against Bristol City, we are capable of going out there and getting late goals."

Worrall also commented on the impact the Welsh boss has had in Forest's recent run.

"We’ve got off to a flyer under the new manager," he continued. "He’s instilled that belief in us right from the start, but we need to knuckle down and be consistent with how we do things and the principles of our play.

“We’ve got a young squad and the manager is used to working with youngsters and coaching young players. No matter the age, everybody’s bought into it and I’m certainly enjoying playing for Forest at the minute."
