Nottingham Forest defender nearing surprise January exit - reports

Chema Rodriguez's stay at Nottingham Forest could be set to end, with reports in Spain claiming he is nearing a move away from the club.

The 27-year-old was only signed in the summer window and in recent weeks has finally broken into Sabri Lamouchi’s starting XI.

However, reports from his homeland have now suggested that he is set to return to Spain with UD Almeria closing in on an agreement.

AS have reported that the deal is ‘closed’ with only an announcement left from both sides.

Almeria manager Jose Maria Gutierrez recently said: "I know that the club works on signing the best players for our team central. It is obvious that we need centers and they know it.”

Chema was initially signed on a two-year deal back in August – but was made to wait for his opportunities at the City Ground.

In recent weeks though, Chema has played in each of the last five Championship games, a run that seen the Reds only lose one game.

Should they finalise a deal, it would be the second time Almeria, have signed a player from Forest this season.

They spent £8m on winger Arvin Appiah in August , although the 18-year-old has only played eight times this season, starting once in the league.
