Nottingham Forest defender Michael Hefele provides update on his recovery from injury

Nottingham Forest defender Michael Hefele has given an update on his recovery from an Achilles injury.

The German missed the second half of the season for the Reds, having been forced off early on in the New Year’s Day 4-2 home victory over Leeds United.

That was Hefele’s 18th appearance for the club, following his move from Huddersfield Town last summer - and his “patience” is being tested as he waits for his next chance to pull on his boots.

The centre-back attended Forest’s final game of the season on Sunday as they signed off with a third successive win, beating Bolton Wanderers 1-0.

He took part in the lap of appreciation around the City Ground after the final whistle, with the rest of his teammates.

And he has posted a message on social media thanking fans for their backing throughout the campaign.

Alongside a picture of himself with the club’s Robin Hood mascot, he wrote: “Thank you ducks for the great support through the season! Robin and I can’t wait to see you again! Rehab is going well but I hate to be patient.”

Boss Martin O’Neill could be well stocked with central defensive options next term.

Tobias Figueiredo made his comeback from injury at the weekend, when he was included on the bench against the Trotters, while Michael Dawson has been continuing his own rehabilitation.

Joe Worrall will return from his loan spell at Rangers in the summer, and the Reds also have Alexander Milosevic and Yohan Benalouane on their books.

Molla Wague has been on loan at the club from Udinese.
