Nottingham Forest defender left 'gutted' as Steve Cooper reflects on Braian Ojeda progress

Nottingham Forest are still awaiting the result of a scan on Max Lowe’s injury, but the defender is “gutted” at facing a spell on the sidelines.

Lowe was forced off half an hour into Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Reading with a groin problem and is likely to miss at least the next two games.

He has been a key player since signing on loan from Sheffield United in the summer, pinning down the left wing-back spot with some impressive performances since Steve Cooper took charge.

But the Reds must now wait to discover how long he could be out for as they prepare to take on Luton Town tomorrow.

Ojeda progress

Summer signing Braian Ojeda continues to make “good progress” as he tries to catch the eye of Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper.

A long journey back from being on international duty with Paraguay contributed to him not being included in the matchday squad for Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Reading.

And Cooper will make a decision on whether he makes the cut for tomorrow night’s midweek clash at home to Luton Town.

James Garner is the most likely replacement for the suspended Ryan Yates at the City Ground. But there is the possibility Jack Colback could switch to left-back to cover for Max Lowe’s absence through injury, which would potentially mean two midfield spots up for grabs.

Forgotten duo

Boss Steve Cooper has told those Nottingham Forest players who have yet to feature under him to keep trying to catch his eye in training.

The Welshman has generally stuck with a settled XI and matchday squad during his 10 games at the helm, meaning some players have yet to get time on the pitch.

Right-back Mohamed Drager and attacker Xande Silva are among that group, with both having joined the Reds in the summer while Chris Hughton was still in charge.

Drager offered a timely reminder of what he has to offer during the international break, however, scoring for Tunisia in a 3-1 victory over Zambia. And it comes at a time when there are fears over Djed Spence being recalled by Middlesbrough in January.

Transfer talk

Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers says Nottingham Forest tried to sign him on a “crazy” deadline day in the summer.

The Reds had looked to bolster their attacking options during the transfer window. They explored a number of targets, but were unable to get a deal for an out-and-out forward over the line.

Dessers ended up joining Feyenoord on loan from Belgian club Genk, but says Forest were among several teams chasing his signature as the clock ticked down on the last day of August.

“That day was the craziest day of my life,” he told De Telegraaf in a translated interview via Dutch website Sport Nieuws.
