Nottingham Forest defender has been 'on the agenda' of another Spanish side

Nottingham Forest defender Chema is said to have been on the radar of Real Zaragoza this month.

The 27-year-old has already been linked with a January switch to Almeria, and he has also reportedly caught the eye of another Spanish second division side.

The newspaper El Periodico de Aragon claims Zaragoza had Chema on their “agenda” as they look for defensive reinforcements.

But they add he was an option which was “economically unfeasible from the beginning” and they are “already working on other alternatives”.

Reds head coach Sabri Lamouchi last week dismissed speculation linking the Spaniard with Almeria.

And with Jack Robinson set to join Sheffield United, Forest will no doubt be keen to retain Chema as an option at left-back.

The summer signing’s more natural position is in the centre of the defence, but he has been used on the left in recent weeks and was ahead of Robinson in the pecking order there.

“Chema is playing, he is happy here,” Lamouchi has said.

“I don’t have any information from the club. And for me, he is with us until the end of the season.

“We are looking for players, not to sell some players - and good players.”

Chema penned a two-year deal when he arrived at the City Ground on transfer deadline day last August.

He has made 10 appearances in the Garibaldi so far this term.
