Nottingham Forest dealt late deadline day blow as Chelsea transfer off

Nottingham Forest's deadline day deal to sign Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi is understood to be off.

Batshuayi emerged as a late transfer target for Forest ahead of the summer window closing at 11pm on Thursday. Of course, signings can still be announced after that time if clubs have submitted a deal sheet to the Premier League before the deadline.

However, NottinghamshireLive understands the Belgium international front man will now not be joining the Reds after all in this window. This is despite reports earlier in the evening that a deal was almost done. It was also suggested that Forest would pay up the remainder of the player's current contract, allowing him to join on a "free" transfer.

But that no longer appears to be the case. Batshuayi, 28, joined Chelsea from Marseille in 2016. He has made 48 league appearances for the Blues, scoring eight goals. He has had a series of loan spells during his time at Stamford Bridge, going to Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and Crystal Palace. Most recently, he was with Besiktas, scoring 14 goals for the Turkish outfit last season.

Forest have signed defender Willy Boly from Wolves and winger Josh Bowler from Blackpool on deadline day - their 19th and 20th senior recruits of the summer. Another centre-back, Loic Bade, could yet follow.

Would Batshuayi have been a good signing for Forest? Let us know what you think in the comments section.
