Nottingham Forest deadline day transfer thrown into major doubt

Lewis O'Brien's exit from Nottingham Forest still remains up in the air with Blackburn Rovers yet to receive EFL confirmation.

After intense speculation on where O'Brien would end up, it was Blackburn who eventually won the race despite interest from both Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion. However, Rovers were able to trump their Championship counterparts, with the Blades under a transfer embargo and Albion having signed Nathaniel Chalobah from Fulham instead.

That said, Rovers are still yet to receive official word from the EFL, as to whether the transfer has gone through. It went right down to the wire on deadline day - after Blackburn saw off Birmingham City in their FA Cup fourth round replay. For transfers to get over the line, paperwork must be filed before the 11pm deadline.

O'Brien has slipped down the pecking order at Forest in recent matches with his last start having come in the first week of October. His hope of more game time at the City Ground has been diminished even further due to Forest's January arrivals, with both Danilo and Jonjo Shelvey arriving to strengthen their midfield options.

Because of that, Forest were happy to let O'Brien leave in search of regular minutes but he and Blackburn now face an anxious wait as to whether the deal has gone through. He faces being left out of Forest's 25-man squad for the rest of the season if his move to Rovers does not get the green light, according to Alan Nixon.

Is O'Brien's potential exit the right call from Forest? Have your say in the comments section...
