Nottingham Forest could get cash boost as Emiliano Marcondes update emerges

Nottingham Forest look set to benefit from the “imminent” departure of former Red Jorge Grant from Lincoln City.

The Imps are braced to lose the midfielder this summer, with a number of second tier sides said to be keen on him.

And if he does go, Forest would receive a cash boost after including a substantial sell-on clause as part of the deal he signed when he made the switch to Lincoln in 2019.

Grant left the City Ground for Sincil Bank for an “undisclosed fee”, putting pen to paper on a contract which included various add-ons.

Anderson's message

Club legend Viv Anderson hopes to see Brennan Johnson given his Nottingham Forest chance next season.

And he says ensuring boss Chris Hughton has sufficient strength in depth in his squad will be essential, if the Reds are to challenge for promotion.

Johnson returns to the City Ground on the back of a standout campaign on loan at Lincoln City, in which the League One side fell just short of promotion to the Championship.

The 20-year-old bagged 13 goals in 49 appearances and is said to have caught the eye of the likes of Burnley, Leeds United, Leicester City, Brentford and Barnsley.

Marcondes stance

Free agent midfielder Emiliano Marcondes is said to be keen to remain in England, amid links to Nottingham Forest and a number of other Championship clubs.

The 26-year-old is to be released by Brentford when his contract expires at the end of this month, and has attracted a fair bit of interest.

The Reds and QPR have both been linked, while Barnsley are said to be among those keen and newly-promoted Norwich City reportedly had him on their radar earlier in the year.

Teams in France and Germany have also put forward offers, according to the Daily Mail. But it is said Marcondes would prefer to stay in English football and his next move is “likely” to be to a club on these shores.

Transfer talk

It has been a slow start to the summer window at Nottingham Forest, but there has still been plenty of transfer speculation doing the rounds.

Players have been linked with moves to and moves from the City Ground, in what is a crucial window for the Reds.

Boss Chris Hughton has a fair bit of work to do to transform a squad which finished 17th into one capable of challenging for a top six spot.

Matt Davies and Sarah Clapson discussed the latest rumours and goings-on, taking questions from fans, in a live broadcast on our Forest Facebook page.

Here’s how it panned out.
