Nottingham Forest confirm summer departure as transfer window preparations start

Nottingham Forest have confirmed that midfielder Jack Colback will leave the club at the end of the season on the expiry of his contract at the City Ground.

The former Newcastle United man has struggled for game time in the Premier League this season, making just four league starts for the club this campaign. He has missed the last eight games after suffering a concussion in training, and it now seems that he may have played his final game for the club.

In a statement on the club’s official website , Forest wrote: “The 33-year-old will embark on a new chapter following the conclusion of the 2022/23 campaign, bringing an end to a five-year stay on Trentside across three different spells.

“Colback will leave The City Ground having made just shy of 140 appearances in the Garibaldi, playing an integral part in last season's memorable promotion-winning campaign which saw Forest return to the Premier League.”

“Everyone at Nottingham Forest wishes Jack every success in the future and thanks him for his magnificent contribution during his time at The City Ground.”

Speaking to the official website, head coach Steve Cooper outlined the influence the midfielder has had both on and off the pitch. "Jack has been more than a player to me,” he said.

“Before I started working with him, and even before his time at Forest, he's had a good career having played in the Premier League many years.

"When you think about last season, everybody played a massive part, but when I think about Jack's contribution, it was huge, especially with some of the goals that he scored.

"The contribution goes to his experience, his leadership. He's a real man."

The decision not to extend his contract at the City Ground means that colback will be on a free transfer when the summer window opens. It also opens up a space in Forest’s squad for any new arrivals in the summer.
