Nottingham Forest have confirmed their squad numbers for the 2021/22 season - and there are some surprises in there, as well as a sense of the end of the road for some.
New signing Ethan Horvath takes the number one shirt, although it remains to be seen whether he will be first-choice between the posts.
Boss Chris Hughton has hinted the spot is Brice Samba’s to lose, after he has established himself there, and the shot-stopper keeps the number 30 shirt.
Brennan Johnson has returned from his loan at Lincoln City to take up the number 20, having previously been 40, while Joao Carvalho is back from his year at Almeria to wear the number 10 once again.
No numbers have been given to Harry Arter, Carl Jenkinson or Fouad Bachirou, after they were told they can move on this summer.
Gaetan Bong was also in the same position, but is included in the list of numbers, at 13. Amid a shortage of left-backs, the former Brighton and Hove Albion man finds himself back in the first-team fold, at least in the short-term, ahead of Sunday’s opening clash at Coventry City.
A number of Under-23s players have also been handed squad numbers, having been given an opportunity to impress in the summer friendlies.
The number two shirt remains unfilled as the Reds look to recruit a right-back, as do the numbers five, nine and 11.
