Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of Warren Joyce as their new Under-18s head coach.
The former Manchester United stalwart takes over the post from Gareth Holmes, who left his role at the Nigel Doughty Academy last week “to pursue new opportunities”.
Joyce managed the reserves at Old Trafford for eight years, before spells as first-team manager at Wigan Athletic and Melbourne City.
The 56-year-old moved into senior management in 2016 when he took charge of the Latics in the Championship.
However, he was sacked just four months later after a dismal run of just six wins in 24 matches.
He then moved to Australia, taking up the hot seat at A-League side Melbourne City in 2017, and spent just shy of two years at the club before returning to England.
In 2019, he was appointed coach for Salford City’s first development squad, but departed earlier this month.
Joyce joins the Reds’ youth set-up at an exciting time, with the academy having been granted conditional Category 1 status in May.
Forest’s Under-18s will compete in the Premier League North Division for the 2021/22 season.
Holmes’ exit came after six years at the club, having played a key role in bringing through a number of talented players, such as Alex Mighten and Brennan Johnson.
The Reds have a long tradition of developing youngsters and progressing them through the ranks into the first-team - something they will be looking to continue with Joyce.
