Nottingham Forest sanction loan deal for highly rated youngster

Nottingham Forest youngster Danny Preston has joined Alfreton Town on loan, the club confirmed on Thursday night.

The left-back has joined the National League North side for a month.

Preston is the captain of the Reds ' Under-23s side and made the step up to that level in 2016-17.

Previously he was part of the 2017-18 side that reached the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup before bowing out to Blackburn Rovers in February last year.

Alfreton currently sit in tenth place in the sixth tier of English football and play Gateshead tomorrow at the Gateshead International Stadium.

Billy Heath's side have played 18 matches this season, winning eight, losing nine and drawing one.

The Impact Arena side, also known as the Reds, hope Preston's qualities will bolster their ranks.

"We've been aware of Danny for a long time and we have watched him whilst he's played for Forest Under-23s," Heath said.

"He is a solid left back with bags of quality and he has an excellent physical side to him so he will adapt well to the National League North.

"Forest rate him highly and we hope he will make a good impact for us, we look forward to working with him.

"Danny comes straight into the squad and is available for Saturday."
