Nottingham Forest complete first summer transfer as Reds beat Leeds United in race for teenager

Nottingham Forest have beaten Leeds United in the race to sign Northern Ireland teenager Dale Taylor.

The 16-year-old is understood to have penned a long term contract with the Reds, completing his move from Danske Bank Premiership side Linfield.

One of Northern Ireland's most exciting young players, Taylor is the captain of his nation's under-17s side and will have commanded a compensation fee for his transfer.

Back in October, the Linfield youth product went viral when he bagged a wonder strike for the Belfast based side, aged just 15.

Described by his former manager David Healey as being a player who is "exceptional for someone so young", Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds were amongst the clubs linked with him this summer but it is Forest who have now won the race.

Speaking about the youngster to BelfastLive, Healey said: "He has a really bright future.

"Dale’s a chunk of a lad and is a strong, tough boy. He’s a Tiger’s Bay boy and is from an area where you need to be tough mentally. Dale has all the attributes. He is a talented boy."

Taylor is expected to join the Reds at youth level under boss Gareth Holmes where he will look to progress into Chris Cohen's Under-23 ranks with the club.
