Nottingham Forest Academy manager Gary Brazil has said that Alex Mighten’s goal vs Millwall could be ‘the first of many’.
The 18-year-old started his second game in a row vs Millwall after making just one appearance in the league since October, and he repaid Chris Hughton’s faith in him by drawing the Reds level just two minutes after going behind.
After the game, Mighten took to social media to speak of his delight of getting on the scoresheet for the first time.
“Hard fought point on the road, always a tough place to go. Delighted to score my first professional goal! Onto the next one. #NFFC” he wrote.
The teenager received a number of congratulations messages on social media, but in among them was Brazil, who worked with the player as he was coming up through the club’s academy, and he has delivered an exciting assessment of the young forward.
“The first of many I believe,” he wrote.
“Great talent with a big future. Lots of work to do but @AlexMighten10 has an inner strength and confidence in his ability to achieve big things. Looking forward to watching him develop.”
Mighten has made eight first-team appearances in all competitions so far this season, starting the last two Championship games.
The academy graduate also earned praise from manager Hughton after the game.
"He'll remember that. We needed it, as well," He said of Mighten's goal .
"I thought it was a fabulous goal.
"I thought he had been fairly quiet in the game before that - because of the type of game it was and because Millwall had marked him tightly. He wasn't really able to get into the spaces where he could be one against one
But what he did give us, is the type of runs we know he can do.
"He'd gone from a quiet game, and maybe not being quite so productive, to that one moment.
"He'd sensed an opportunity from the long ball.
"It's good to have players who are prepared to run behind.
"It was a wonderful moment for him."
Mighten will get the chance to add to his tally when Forest take on Birmingham City at the City Ground on Boxing Day.
