Nottingham Forest close in on Wolves striker Rafa Mir

Nottingham Forest are closing in on the capture of Rafa Mir - with the Wolves striker expected to undergo a medical in the next 24 hours.

Sabri Lamouchi wants to strengthen in defence, midfield and attack prior to the big kick-off this weekend.

And the signing of 22-year-old Mir would immediately bolster their attacking options.

Mir spent last season on loan in the Spanish second tier, with Las Palmas, where he scored seven goals in 19 starts and 11 sub appearances.

While he has made only four appearances in a Wolves shirt - in the form of two starts in the Championship and two in the FA Cup - he is highly regarded in Spain.

Mir has scored five goals in 10 caps with the Spanish under-21 side - and was part of the squad that triumphed in the European Championships this summer.

The player joined Wolves from Valencia in January 2018, where he had previously played for their B team.

His form for Valencia B in the Segunda Division B (the third tier) during the 2017/18 season was an influence in that move, with Mir having scored 15 goals in 19 appearances, which led to that interest from Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

He had previously netted nine goals in 35 appearances during the 2016/17 campaign.

Now Forest hope the 6ft 3in forward will add another dynamic to an attacking arsenal that currently includes established goalscorer Lewis Grabban and the highly regarded Tyler Walker, who scored 26 goals on loan at Mansfield Town last season.
