Nottingham Forest are close to signing former Charlton goalkeeper Joe Watkins.
The 18-year-old was released by the Addicks at the end of last season, but according to academy manager Steve Avory, he has joined the Reds. He is yet to actually formally join but is indeed expected to, it is understood, with more Under-23s additions likely.
"There were four scholars that I had to inform that they were not going to be offered a pro contract," Avory told the Charlton website.
"I’m delighted that two of those have got contracts elsewhere - Harry Beadle at Colchester and Joe Watkins at Nottingham Forest. We’ll certainly be trying to help the other two lads as well."
Forest are set to be in the market for a young goalkeeper to boost their under-23s options after loaning George Shelvey to Mansfield Town for the season.
They have also been linked with a move for former Rangers goalkeeper Nicky Hogarth.
The free agent is on the verge of agreeing a two-year deal with the Reds, reports the Daily Record.
The 20-year-old Falkirk-born player was released by Steven Gerard’s Scottish champions in the summer, even though there were said to be several English clubs tracking him closely.
Hogarth had loan spells at Cowdenbeath, Stirling Albion and Caledonia Braves during his time at Ibrox.
