Nottingham Forest & Bristol City linked with bargain move for coveted midfielder

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Nimes midfielder Theo Valls.

According to reports in the French press, Forest's Championship rivals Brentford and Bristol City are also interested in the 24-year-old.

French sides Lens, Angers and Brest are all said to be keen as well.

Valls is out of contract at Nimes at the end of June and is available on a free transfer now that the French authorities have curtailed their season early because of the coronavirus pandemic.

He is a central midfielder who also operates deeper and could be an ideal signing for Reds boss Sabri Lamouchi, whose favoured formation contains two defensive midfielders.

Lamouchi's favoured two are Samba Sow and Ben Watson and while they have been a solid partnership the former has missed a lot of the season because of injury and the latter turns 35 in July.

The transfer market will obviously be heavily impacted domestically by Covid-19, with the season yet to restart, but Valls could be a bargain signing for Lamouchi.

In bringing in bargain buys Tiago Silva, Brice Samba, Yuri Ribeiro and Sow from across the continent, Lamouchi has form for plucking obscure names from Europe.

Valls, who has played 24 games and scored one goal this season, could be the latest.

He has spent his entire career at Nimes, racking up 154 appearances with four goals to his name.

Valls is a left-footer, too, so can deputise at full-back and on the wings if needed.
