Nottingham Forest boss talks summer transfers as Reds sweat on injured duo

Nottingham Forest are hopeful goalkeeper Brice Samba and winger Anthony Knockaert will be fit to face Brentford on Saturday.

The duo missed the Reds’ midweek defeat to Norwich City due to slight injury problems, adding to a list of absentees which also includes Joe Worrall, Joe Lolley, Harry Arter and Fouad Bachirou.

But boss Chris Hughton is hoping Samba and Knockaert will be fit for the trip to the Bees this weekend.

“We’re hoping they will be okay,” the Forest boss said in his pre-match press conference.

“Both were out on the training pitch today.

“They didn’t train with the team, but they were both out on the training pitch with the sports scientists.

Boss' reflections

Nottingham Forest’s opening 13 minutes were the stuff of nightmares against Norwich City - and they certainly caused a sleepless night for manager Chris Hughton.

The Reds boss re-watched Wednesday night’s 2-0 defeat at 5am this morning, unable to put his side’s performance to bed.

And it wasn’t much better viewing the second time around.

The hosts were comfortably beaten by the Championship leaders, with Hughton admitting the Canaries and Saturday’s opponents Brentford have set the bar for others to follow.

Transfer talk

Chris Hughton has admitted there will be a rebuilding job at Nottingham Forest this summer and says the recruitment of players is currently an “ongoing process”.

The Reds were given a reminder of how much work needs to be carried out before they are matching Norwich City’s quality as they took a stride towards the Championship title with a 2-0 win at the City Ground last night.

Hughton will be given the chance to reshape Forest’s attack in the summer when a number of loan players return to their parent clubs such as Anthony Knockaert, Luke Freeman and Filip Krovinovic.

With Forest having struggled for goals throughout the campaign, the final third is likely to dominate the transfer agenda as Hughton looks to pep-up a misfiring attack.

Gap to bridge

Norwich City put in a “fully dominant” performance against Nottingham Forest, according to Canaries boss Daniel Farke.

And he reeled off some stats to prove it.

The one which counted was the 2-0 scoreline to the visitors as Chris Hughton’s Reds failed to get anywhere close to their title-chasing opponents.

It was a painful night for those of a Forest persuasion as they were comfortably beaten, with a clear gulf in class between the two sides on show.
